720p, 1080p and 4K: picture quality explained

What HD means on YTS, how streaming services choose a resolution, and when 4K is worth it.

The HD label

Every film on YTS is listed with its HD edition in mind. The resolution you see depends on the service you open and on your plan.

720p and 1080p

720p looks sharp on a phone; 1080p is the standard for laptops and most TVs. Services switch between them to match your connection, so a steady connection keeps the picture crisp.

4K and HDR

Premium plans stream the biggest films in 4K with HDR. Dune: Part Two, Avatar: The Way of Water, Oppenheimer and Top Gun: Maverick are made for it on a large TV.

Data use

Higher resolution uses more data: roughly three gigabytes an hour in 1080p and much more in 4K. Set your app to save data on mobile and switch to high quality on Wi-Fi.
